Why do I panic when someone texts less?

Asked by Woman, 23

A two-hour gap and I am sure it is over. I hate this about myself.

Men’s answer

The panic is older than this person. A slow reply is not a verdict unless a pattern of disappearance is already there. Tell the difference: one delay versus a changing baseline. Your body is trying to get ahead of abandonment. It will also create the very chase that pushes people away. You can feel the panic and not send the third text.

Women’s answer

You are not dramatic. You are unprotected in the gap. Regulation is ugly and practical: walk, eat, text a friend who is not the crush. Do not use the crush to treat the panic. If every slow hour is a crisis, dating apps will keep you sick. Slow the whole diet of attention.

What to do next

When the panic hits, wait 90 minutes before you send anything. Note what the feeling does. Repeat until waiting is boring.
