If you cannot say what you are, you are the convenience version. Labels are not traps; they are logistics. 'Why label it' from someone enjoying boyfriend access is a preference, not a philosophy. You can stay in it with eyes open. You cannot stay in it and also demand it be something they refused to call.
A relationship can say what it is on a Tuesday. A situationship needs fog to survive. If defining it threatens the whole thing, the thing is the fog. Wanting a name is not needy. It is how adults plan holidays.
Ask once, clearly: exclusive or not. If you get a riddle, believe the riddle and date other people or leave.
