Ask Both Intimacy
How do we handle a desire mismatch?
Asked by Woman, 36
I want sex twice a week. He wants it rarely. I feel rejected. He feels hunted.
Men’s answer
From the men
Mismatch is common and not a verdict on love. Hunting makes the lower-desire partner freeze. Scorekeeping makes the higher-desire partner bitter. Talk about conditions, not morals: stress, touch without a destination, frequency you can both live with for a season. If 'never' is the real answer, that is a different relationship. Be honest about never.
Women’s answer
From the women
Rejection can be real even when he is not cruel. You are allowed to need sexual connection. He is allowed to have a body that does not. The work is a plan that is not you initiating until you feel small. If every conversation becomes your need versus his comfort, get a couples therapist who will not shame either of you.
What to do next
Agree a 30-day experiment: non-sexual touch most days, sex without a quota, and one honest check-in. Then decide, not hope.
