Ask Both Communication
What do healthy boundaries sound like in a relationship?
Asked by Woman, 30
I either say nothing or I explode. I want sentences I can actually use.
Men’s answer
From the men
Healthy boundaries sound boring. 'I do not discuss our fights in group chats.' 'I leave if you keep yelling.' 'I need Sunday mornings alone.' They name your behavior, not their soul. If it needs a TED talk, it is still a hope. The test is whether you do the thing you named.
Women’s answer
From the women
Try: when X happens, I will Y. Not: you always, you never. We are not obligated to make the boundary charming. We are obligated to keep it. If they call a calm limit 'attitude,' they wanted access, not a partner.
What to do next
Write two when-then sentences this week and use one. Do not explain it twice.
